Aminka Ozmun: Romances for Animal Lovers

Model-turned-author Aminka Ozmun, known for her paranormal romances featuring black women and Asian male leads, has decided to add yet another “angle” into her work: animals and animal rights. ”The paranormal romance genre is a near perfect medium for communicating such issues,” she explains. ”After all, animals have always played a large role in supernatural lore. There is something inherently other-worldly about them (from our human points of view, of course). And there’s something that seems so other-worldly about love and romance itself, actually. So for animals to play a crucial part in stories involving such themes would definitely be fitting, and wouldn’t appear forced or artificially inserted.”
She isn’t quite sure exactly what will happen in this regard — “I don’t want any stereotypical animal roles such as spirit guide or a mere form for a divinity to take, even” — but is sure that this is the way to go for her books from now on. ”There’s a lot of material that possible. I’m getting goosebumps just from thinking about them!”
